Sometimes success can be bittersweet. Especially when it leads to goodbyes.

The conclusion of the Class A State Track meet will be a memorable one with the Lady Rams taking the second place team trophy. Quite a feat considering that they only scored 3 points as a team at last year's State meet. What was the difference? " We had athletes come out that were not here last year due to injuries or personal reasons. They made a huge difference." said Coach Joe Giglia, head coach for the Ram program for the last 23 years.

Now the Rams will once again have to look forward with some of those faces missing next year. Seniors Brooke Knox and Ashlee Giglia have been All-State performers since their 8th grade year and have been inducted into the Cimarron Track Hall of Fame. "Those two are incredible athletes and have made a huge impact on the final State results every time they stepped on the track" said Giglia.  The Rams will also be missing the All-State performances of Ashley Long in the Javelin, Rosario Serna in the Javelin and Pole Vault, State qualifier Denise Kordis in distance and thrower new-comers Arielle King and Alicia Sedillo. Also saying goodbye on the boy's side are All-Staters Jake Arko in the Shot & discus and Distance/Sprint All-Stater Isaac Trujillo and team leader/sprinter Carlos Beltran.

" Sure they were great athletes but more importantly they were incredible people. A lot of those kids have been with us so long....well, they are much more than athletes to us. They have been part of our family, some literally too. We definitely shed some tears, it's always bittersweet at this time of year" said Giglia.

So what does the future bring? According to Coach Giglia, " This is just part of the process. Kids step up to fill the roles that came before them. We have some extremely talented and enthusiastic kids on both the boy's and girl's squads. They have had the best role models an athlete can have, so I'm sure they will do great things".
