PRC Orders Hearing on Blue Cross Rate Hike
By Michael Hartranft - Albuquerque Journal - SANTA FE — The Public Regulation Commission on Thursday ordered the state Insurance Division to schedule a public hearing on a controversial rate increase sought by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico. It also directed the division superintendent to consider freezing rates or imposing an interim rate pending the hearing, and to report back to the commission by next week.
Controller's Children Control planes at JFK
An air-traffic controller put passengers in double jeopardy by letting his 9-year-old son direct planes at JFK - and repeating the stunt with the boy's twin sister the next day, probers said Wednesday night. Controller Glenn Duffy was already in trouble for allowing his son to give instructions to pilots preparing for take-off on Feb. 16. The Federal Aviation Administration then discovered Duffy pulled the move again with the boy's twin sister, sources said.
NM House Expanding Webcasts

Nearly twelve months to the day after some House lawmakers worried about getting caught napping on camera, the New Mexico House of Representatives on Friday voted unanimously to allow video webcasting of debates and votes on the House floor as soon as next week.
Schools Hit Again
By Hailey Heinz - Journal Staff Writer School districts around the state are wrestling with larger budget cuts than expected because the Legislature's attempt to rescue them has run into legal problems. For Albuquerque Public Schools, that means a 2 percent cut in the current budget instead of the 0.8 percent reduction it had hoped for. That's a difference of $7 million.
